Data regarding battery lifecycle, carbon footprint, and material composition are managed in a traceable, verifiable, and up-to-date structure in accordance with regulatory requirements and stakeholder expectations.

Overview

New Era in Battery Transparency and Sustainability

The EU Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 brings the mandatory Digital Battery Passport (DBP) requirement for electric vehicle batteries, light means of transport batteries, and industrial batteries exceeding 2 kWh. This regulation establishes transparency, traceability, and sustainability as a new standard in the battery sector.

Digital Product Passport for Batteries and Accumulators
01

As of February 18, 2027, all batteries within scope placed on the EU market will be required to have a Digital Battery Passport accessible via QR code. This passport presents critical data such as battery identity, material composition, carbon footprint, performance indicators, supply chain due diligence, and recycling information under a single digital structure.

02

The Digital Battery Passport provides end-to-end traceability from raw material sourcing to end-of-life management, creating a reliable information infrastructure for consumers, public authorities, and business partners. It also supports circular economy goals and accelerates the transition to sustainable battery production.

03

Under the regulation, manufacturers and importers are responsible for the creation, maintenance, and accessibility of the Digital Battery Passport. The passport must remain accessible even if economic operators cease operations; it must be created through a certified platform and comply with all legal requirements.
